Postdoctoral Fellowship in Chirogenesis at Concordia University

A Postdoctoral position is available under the direct supervision of Prof. Louis Cuccia (Concordia University) in collaboration with Prof. Scott Bohle (McGill University) and Prof. Luc Trembay (University of Moncton). This position is available June 1, 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful applicant will identify catalytic mineral surfaces identical, or closely related to meteoritic matter capable of racemizing proteinogenic amino acids. Specifically, the chosen candidate will investigate known mineral phases and their synthetic progenetors, by proposed hydrothermal conditions, as enantioenrichment and racemization catalysts. The preliminary work will focus on amino acids or amino acid salts that crystallize as conglomerates and, as such, surface catalyzed crystallization-induced asymmetric amplification will also be investigated. An initial salary will be $35,000 and $7000 in benefits with a contract of one year with the possibility of extension my mutual agreement. Interested candidates are asked to submit a cover letter outlining your interest in the position together with a CV, summary of current and previous research and 2 references by email to: Louis Cuccia
